Thanksgiving Weekend at Highland Pines Campground

Today we slept in.  We have had a great first weekend in our motorhome and enjoyed the company of P & J.

We learnt a lot about the motorhome, things we need, things that need fixing / improving.  It was a good first run.

P & J are packing up and so are we.  We take one last walk around the campground and then head out.

 

We follow them as we head for home. 



We stopped at the corner of Hwy 9 & 89 for a break at Pete’s Donuts… lots of home baked goodies here.

We are already looking forward to next weekend and heading off again in our Motorhome.

Thanksgiving Weekend at Highland Pines Campground

We got to sleep in late today.  The new bed is very comfortable.   The first thing on the agenda was breakfast.  Then we got the awning out and set up our site.



We barbequed hot dogs for lunch and then went for a nice walk around the campground with P & J and her granddaughters.



You can see it is a chilly weekend because we are all wearing winter coats.  I brought my long winter coat and was toasty warm on our walk.



There is a nice Airstream trailer on one of the sites.  Had we been looking for a travel trailer, I am sure we would have bought an Airstream.  Remember we stayed in one during our last visit to South Padre Island in Texas.



P & J had enough of walking so they headed back to their 5th wheel trailer while Karen and I continued onwards.  We walked down to the beach area.  Lots of beach and not much water.

 

 

Back at our motorhome, we were invited to share in the left overs from last nights feast and we enjoyed our time around the campfire while enjoying a couple of drinks.   Despite the cold, it was a great day with no rain.

Thanksgiving Weekend at Highland Pines Campground

We are awake early and anxious to begin our day.  This is the Canadian Thanksgiving Day Long Weekend and we are off on our first trip in our new to us Motorhome.  A couple of days ago I moved it from the Workshop driveway into our main driveway so that we could load it easily from the house.  There sure is a lot to go in when you are starting out, but most if not all of the stuff will stay in the motorhome and not come back into the house.



At 9am we are ready to get on our way.  We are heading to Highland Pines Campground near Fergus Ontario.  It is about 150 KM and I have plotted a route that will take us on a lot of back country roads.  Those are the kinds of roads we liked to travel on in the car.  They offer a slower pace and are much more scenic.  Ontario is very scenic at this time of the year with all the leaves changing colours.

 

There was a detour through the small village of Elmvale.  They were having their Thanksgiving Day Parade and Fall Fair.  It was a tight fit through some of the streets, but we got through without incident.

 

In the town of Cookstown, we stopped for lunch.  What a pleasure to just pull over to the shoulder of the road and make our own meal and not have to bother to find a restaurant.  I may have parked a bit too close to the trees, I will have to remember to not pull in so close to any trees or I may cause some damage.  We enjoyed our lunch and got on our way again.

 

We pass through rural farm country and see lots of fall colours.

 

The motorhome is running nicely as we cruise along looking at the scenery.

 

We turned onto a dirt road and cross our fingers that it won’t get too rough and washboardy as we head towards our destination.

 

Up and over we go.

 

There is a new view around every corner and over every hill.  Much more interesting than taking the 6 lane highways.

 

 

We arrived at the campground around 3pm and got ourselves checked in.



Here we are, backed into our site.  Next to us in the Terry Dakota 5th Wheel Trailer are our friends P & J.  I am glad to be next to them in case we have any RV’ing questions.  Plus they are cooking Thanksgiving Dinner and have invited us to join them.

We enjoyed a very tasty turkey dinner and all the fixin’s with P & J and their family and then we sat around their campfire roasting marshmallows and having a few drinks.  A very enjoyable first day in our motorhome.
