Today is Day 26 Friday August 1 2008
First stop today is the Fantastic Caverns just outside of Springfield Missouri. Billed as America’s only ride through cave. They weren't kidding. You are literally driven through the cave in an open seated trailer pulled by a Jeep. This is a really good idea for those who do not like to walk too much or can’t walk, you still get to experience the cave. Anytime I can sit down while on vacation and still see everything, well that is a good thing.
The pictures did not turn out so great, something about the poor lighting underground I suppose. We did purchase a photo though.
We went and checked out another Route 66 Icon, The Munger Moss Motel.
The public library in Springfield also has a nice display of Route 66 memorabilia.
We headed a few miles along Route 66 and stayed overnight in Lebanon Missouri, When we wake up in the morning, we will backtrack to Springfield and then head south to Branson Missouri. I didn’t realize till I looked at the map, that Branson wasn’t too far off of Route 66 and it would be a nice diversion for a few days.
