We will drive for a short distance on the Lincoln Highway this morning but only as a means to get out of Joliet IL and onto the roads that will take us North and West to Burnsville MN. That is our destination for today.
Best Western Hotels was running a promotion this summer that if you stay at 3 different BW properties, they will give you a voucher for a free night stay at any of their properties. So we decided to take them up on that offer. We have actually stayed at 11 different BW properties this summer, so we more than qualify. If you are familiar with the Best Western brand, you will know that they have 3 tiers, sort of a good, better, best classification. There is Best Western, then Best Western Plus and the top classification is Best Western Premier. We decided to check out the Premier classification and discovered that there are only a couple of dozen of these “Premier” properties in the USA and only 2 in all of Canada. Their “Premier” property in Burnsville MN is a days drive from Jolliet, so we will use our voucher to get one night free and then pay for the balance and stay for a couple of days.
There was some road construction, but once we got onto the Interstate it was clear driving.. That is one good thing about the Interstates, they do get you from point A to point B very quickly. It was kind of nice to see the car speedometer climb above 45 mph and go up to 75 mph.
We stopped at the Belvidere Oasis on I-90 for a bit of a break around 10:30am.
Then around noon we crossed the State Line from Illinois into Wisconsin.
We stopped in Deforest WI for lunch. Across the road from where we ate is the Ehlenbach’s Cheese Chalet. Wisconsin is the leading State in milk and cheese production.
We crossed over the Wisconsin River.
And the Chippewa River.
The I-94 Interstate crosses over Lake St Croix from Hudson WI to Lakeland MN
We are now in the State of Minnesota.
Shortly after crossing the State Line, we are pulling into the parking lot of our hotel.
Our room is very nice, but somehow I was expecting it to be even nicer, being a “Premier Property”. We have stayed in rooms that were equally as nice that didn’t have the “Premier” distinction. It is FREE though, so that is good.
We ate dinner this evening in the onsite restaurant, a bit pricey, but we have enough left overs that we won’t have to dine out tomorrow night.
