We got away from the house around 11 am. Stopped in Penetanguishene ON for some groceries and then continued South on Hwy 93.
We drove past Orr Lake.
Continuing South on 93, we then got onto the Southbound 400 Hwy. Heading through Barrie ON.
The traffic Northbound on the 400 towards cottage country was building. Southbound traffic ahead of us was moving quite nicely.
My RVND7215 GPS gave me a startle when the alarm went off indicating a low bridge ahead. I had not heard that warning before and the GPS was telling me to get off at the exit before the bridge and take the side road to get around that low bridge. That just did not make sense to me because I know that higher vehicles than our motorhome go under these bridges on the 400 every day. I will have to double check the settings on my Rand McNally RV GPS. The clearance of the bridge is 4.0 Metres and we are not that tall, so I need to measure our height and enter the correct height of our motorhome into the GPS. We drove under the bridge without any issue.
We drove past Canada’s Wonderland.
Then we merged onto Hwy 401 Westbound.
We then exited off the 401 and onto the 403 which will take us to the QEW.
Passing by Mississauga we saw these odd shaped office or condo towers.
Traffic on the 403 was very slow past Mississauga, stop and go at times.
Past Burlington Ontario.
The traffic gets even thicker as we get closer to Hamilton Ontario.
Traffic finally eases up as we see the Burlington Skyway ahead of us.
Up and over we go. That is Lake Ontario to the left and Hamilton Harbour to the right.
I much prefer driving on the back roads and single lane highways than this 8 lane highway. You need to pay attention to so many things in front of you and around you.. Traffic got heavy again and I am concentrating hard in this photo as I drive along.
Near Lincoln Ontario we saw this family of Elephants out for a stroll.
We are getting close to our destination… there is the sign for St Catherines Ontario.
The Garden Skyway is just ahead.
Looking down from the Garden Skyway we can see the Welland Canal and one of the many lift bridges that have to be raised so that the ships can pass.
Actually, now that I can look at these photos and not be concentrating on driving, I can see a lake freighter leaving the Welland Canal Lock #1 and that bridge will soon have to be raised.
Our exit is just ahead at the bottom of the Garden Skyway. Exit 38A
Now we are on the quiet peaceful back roads of Ontario. Welcome to Niagara Falls ON.
There is our KOA ahead on the left. We arrived at 3:30 pm and got checked in.
As soon as we got checked in, we went directly to our site and got the motorhome parked. Then I called the car rental company and had them come to the KOA to pick us up and take us back to their office to get our rental car. With our rental car now back at the KOA I finished getting the motorhome plugged in to the hydro, the water and sewer hoses hooked up and then got the motorhome level so that we can put out the bedroom and dinette slides. We are all settled in to enjoy a week here in the Niagara Falls area.
We ate a quick dinner and then went for a nice evening walk to check out our surroundings around the KOA campground. They have lots of these little cabins that you can rent.
Or maybe you want something a little larger and fancier.
Or you can check into the small motel units on the property.
This is the store and the office where you get checked in. There is a little restaurant/pub to the right of the office in front of the KOA truck.
There is a childrens play area, lots of things to play on and many daily activities for the kiddies. They were having fun on the bounce pad.
There are 2 large outdoor pools and one indoor pool.
Our site is quite nice. We are far enough away from the noises of the play area and the pools. There are nice mature trees around us.
Tomorrow we plan to go on a short road trip in our rental car.
