Day 10 Summer Vacation 2008

Today is Day 10 Wednesday July 16 2008

Today we are going to drive about 20 miles South of Sedona and climb aboard The Verde Canyon Railroad for a trip aboard what is often referred to as the finest train ride in Arizona . The train station is located in Clarkdale Arizona. It is a 4 hour train ride aboard renovated passenger coaches and open-air viewing cars pulled by vintage locomotives.

The train snakes around curves, over trestles, and through a 680-foot man-made tunnel. In some places, the canyon walls are so close you can reach out and touch them, but don't because you will lose your arm if you do.

The ride through the canyon takes 2 hours and then we reach the abandoned railway station of Perkinsville.

Perkinsville is where the train stops and they unhook the engine and re-hook it up to the other end of the train to take us back to the station in Clarkdale.

Here is a video of the train engines as they make their way to the other end of the train.
